Spring Term 2018 Ideas

Now that Christmas is well and truly over our attention will start to turn to planning the next term of unit meetings for our girls! I thought I would put together a bit of a list of some ideas to incase you are struggling for inspiration. 




Girlguiding North West Region released a calendar of exciting and different events and topics throughout the year which you could organise meetings on. Some of my favourites for the Spring Term are world book day, International happiness day and Storytelling week. You can find North West regions inspiration calendar here!





 The Spring Term means it starts to get a bit warmer and the nights lighter meaning we can start to venture outside again if we have the space. My Rainbows love a walk to the park and this could be a perfect meeting for the Spring Term or if you want to be a bit more adventurous you could organise a treasure hunt for the girls!

A big guiding event that takes place within the Spring Term is of course Thinking Day which is celebrated on or as close to the 22nd February. This year wagggs has released a resource called Impact which your unit could get involved in or you can celebrate it in your own way and perhaps award the Girlguiding badge to your girls. Girlguiding Ulster has a resource called Growing Around the World  which I think has some great activities in it which could be used to celebrate Thinking Day. 




Easter is a big holiday at the end of the Spring Term which my girls always enjoy celebrating! Depending on how long you want to celebrate or your budget you could organise an easter egg hunt, make some rice crispy cakes or perhaps a craft. I find Baker Ross does great seasonal crafts and I've had a little look at the easter ones and they look fab, even better guiding gets discount! If you wanted to do some community action you could perhaps ask the girls to bring in donations of easter eggs for your local food bank.

My Rainbow's Promise Ceremony

M y   R a i n b o w ' s   P r o m i s e   C e r e m o n y     Having a promise is something that really sets Guiding apart from other organisations and enrolment evenings are a very special part of our termly fixtures. Each unit has their own traditions and how you enrol each section is slightly different so I thought I would share with you how I enrol new Rainbows into my unit.  On the evening our girls get enrolled parents are invited to come 15 minutes earlier than our normal finishing time to watch their daughters. We then practice the ceremony a few times before playing some of the girls favourite games to help battle any nerves our newbies maybe suffering from. Our existing girls create an aisle for the new girls to walk up, standing in pairs facing each other. We have these Rainbow ribbon sticks that the girls hold and they wave them as the girls walk up the aisle. Christmas Challenge Badges I love

Christmas is my favourite time of year and i love getting to do christmas activities with the girls! Over the last few years I've done a few christmas challenge badges and this year I'll be doing another so I thought I would share a few with you for a bit of inspiration. Now I know this is a bit early but us leaders are organised people and like to plan ahead!  1. Be An Elf Yourself Challenge This is the christmas challenge I'll be doing with my Rainbows this year which I talked about here . Not only is the badge adorable but it has quite a few community action activities in it which i think it important all year round but is certainly more common around the festive period. This challenge has both shorter and longer activities in it so you can spend as long or little time on it as you like.
