About Me

My name is Megan and I am a 18 year old member of GirlGuiding. This blog is a place for me to post my guiding hints and tips and to also talk about the crazy adventures I get up to through being apart of the Guiding family! 

To start I thought I would post some guiding related facts about myself! 

1. I am a Rainbow leader, Holiday Brownie leader,


Peer Educator and part of the Senior Section.

2. I have only ever been to Guide camp once and I organised it myself for my Senior Section Permit!

3. Currently I am working towards my Chief Guide Award, Queens Guide Award and Commonwealth Award.

4. I was a Guide young leader for two years and then switched to Rainbows to complete my Adult Leadership. 

5. I love badges! I don't really collect them but I love earning them! I have over 100!

6. My Ranger leader calls me M which is kinda my guiding nickname.

7. I first started Guiding at the age of 4 as in Northern Ireland thats when you can start at Rainbows and have been through all the sections. 

8. I designed my own challenge badge called the 'Isle of Wight Challenge' for my Queens Guide exploration and managed to sell 500! 

9. I've ran 18 Peer Education sessions and am getting closer to my silver award. 

10. I've made my promise in a church, pioneer centre and trampoline park to name a few!

My Rainbow's Promise Ceremony

M y   R a i n b o w ' s   P r o m i s e   C e r e m o n y     Having a promise is something that really sets Guiding apart from other organisations and enrolment evenings are a very special part of our termly fixtures. Each unit has their own traditions and how you enrol each section is slightly different so I thought I would share with you how I enrol new Rainbows into my unit.  On the evening our girls get enrolled parents are invited to come 15 minutes earlier than our normal finishing time to watch their daughters. We then practice the ceremony a few times before playing some of the girls favourite games to help battle any nerves our newbies maybe suffering from. Our existing girls create an aisle for the new girls to walk up, standing in pairs facing each other. We have these Rainbow ribbon sticks that the girls hold and they wave them as the girls walk up the aisle. Christmas Challenge Badges I love

Christmas is my favourite time of year and i love getting to do christmas activities with the girls! Over the last few years I've done a few christmas challenge badges and this year I'll be doing another so I thought I would share a few with you for a bit of inspiration. Now I know this is a bit early but us leaders are organised people and like to plan ahead!  1. Be An Elf Yourself Challenge This is the christmas challenge I'll be doing with my Rainbows this year which I talked about here . Not only is the badge adorable but it has quite a few community action activities in it which i think it important all year round but is certainly more common around the festive period. This challenge has both shorter and longer activities in it so you can spend as long or little time on it as you like.
